SST COURSES

WORKER

Local Law 196 of 2017, requires that construction and demolition workers on job sites with a Construction Superintendent, Site Safety Coordinator, or Site Safety Manager must have:

  • 10 hours of safety training

  • 30 hours of safety training by December 1, 2019

  • 40 hours of safety training by September 1, 2020

SUPERVISOR

Local Law 196 of 2017, requires Supervisors at job sites requiring a Construction Superintendent, Site Safety Coordinator or Site Safety Manager receive 62 hours of safety training by December 1, 2019. This only includes Site Safety Managers, Site Safety Coordinators, Concrete Safety Managers, Construction Superintendents and Competent Persons designated by Construction Superintendents.

SITE SAFETY TRAINING CARD PREREQUISITES

Prerequisites 

  • OSHA card - completed* with an approved OSHA instructor or approved online training provider.**

 *Please note if we are not able to verify your OSHA card, you will not qualify for an SST card. Please, visit the NYC DOB website to find out more information about the OSHA training requirements. 
**Please note that the paper OSHA card has to be presented with the certificate of completion. The DOL doesn't provide information with which Outreach center instructor received the certification, and without the certificate of completion verification process will be impossible, and we will not be able to accept the OSHA card. 

  • The completed SST prescribed courses. As an approved training provider, we are obligated to verify every course that has been completed with other training providers. If we are not able to verify your completed courses, the SST card will not be issued. 

 

Pricing: 

  • $60 - the SST prescribed courses completed with Safety Dynamics LLC 

  • $100 - some of the prescribed courses completed with other training providers. 

Worker SST card Refresher Training

SST cards expire after 5 years. In order to renew your 40 Hour SST card meet the 8-hour Refresher training requirement for the New York City Department of Buildings. 

Supervisor SST card Refresher Training

SST cards expire after 5 years. In order to renew your 62 Hour SST card meet the 16-hour Refresher training requirement for the New York City Department of Buildings.

Course Description:

NYC Requirement: In order to continue to operate in the City of New York, the designated construction worker is required to complete a minimum number of hours of approved site safety training and to carry site safety identification cards as proof of completion of the training (As per New York City Local Law 196 of 2017 also known as ‘LL196’ or ‘Local Law’). This course provides six hours towards the satisfaction of that requirement.

10 Hour SST course contains:

8 Hr Fall Prevention Description

This course provides construction employers and employees with information on recognizing potential fall hazards at their worksites and suggests ways to avoid, minimize, control or prevent the hazards whenever possible.

 

2 Hr Drug and Alcohol Awareness Description

According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Heath, the construction industry has the highest rate of workplace drug use. Substance abuse is a factor in 35 percent of injuries and fatalities, 38 percent to 50 percent of all worker's compensation claims, and 40 percent of thefts. Substance abuse is increasing the risks which affect overall job safety and work efficiency. Substance abuse includes, but is not limited to the use of marijuana, heroin, ecstasy, methamphetamine, cocaine, opiates, amphetamine and large amounts of alcohol.

The goal of this course is to address substance and alcohol abuse and particularly focus on educating workers on safety and productivity hazards created by the abuse of alcohol and other drugs in the workplace.

4 Hr Supported Scaffold User Description

This course is required for all workers using supported scaffolds on construction sites in NYC, as per Local Law 52. It  explains the basic elements of supported scaffold safety and introduces students to the nature of supported scaffold hazards. Topics include scaffold inspections, recognizing different hazards (e.g. falling, electrical, etc.), & protective equipment. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a picture ID card, valid for 4 years. 

 

ONLINE COURSE DISCLAIMER:  The 4 Hour Supported Scaffold User & Refresher certificates have been approved to issue FOR SST purposes. The wallet-sized card for 4 Hour Supported Scaffold cannot be issued and can only be acquired by completing the 4 Hour Supported Scaffold In-Person course.

8 Hr Site Safety Manager Refresher (Chapter 33) Description

The 8 hour Site Safety Manager Refresher course is a refresher to the 40 Hour Site Safety Manager Course and the 8 Hour Site Safety Coordinator Course, which are a comprehensive review of Chapter 33 and the Rules of the City of New York that pertain to public protection. This course provides students with safe job practices in New York City. They will be introduced to the hazards of working in the New York City construction environment and the specific methods and work practices that are necessary on an urban construction site.

 

2 Hr Pre- Task Meeting Description

The goal of this course is to teach participants how to conduct proper pre-task safety meetings, how they can positively impact the workplace with this knowledge, and the factors that can help a competent person to inform employees about an action plan for the control of risks, hazards, and exposures.

authorization outside of the Site Safety Training Card.

 

2 Hr Site Safety Plan Description

The goal of this course is to provide participants with knowledge of the Site Safety Plan, and the factors that can help a competent person to understand the necessity of an action plan as far as organizing safety zones for pedestrians, employees, and equipment.

Please note this course is an awareness level training only and does not provide any other qualification or

authorization outside of the Site Safety Training Card.

 

2 Hr Tool Box Talk Description

The goal of this course is to provide participants with knowledge of “Tool Box” Talks, and the factors that can help a competent person to provide information in regards to safety topics that can help employees to prevent hazardous situations at job sites, make better use of safety equipment, etc.

authorization outside of the Site Safety Training Card.

 

2 Hr General Electives Description

The goal of this course is to provide students with an understanding of First Aid and CPR and what must be done in order to protect oneself from sun exposure.

2 Hr Specialized Electives Description

The goal of this course is to provide students with an understanding of flagger responsibilities and the hazards of entering and working within a confined space.
